Encouraging Growth and Change: A conversation with ESK principal and a step into the future

This week at ESK has been a transformative journey, filled with inspiring conversations and exciting glimpses into the future.

Mr MacDonald, our dedicated Principal, has enjoyed getting to know each and every student in Year 12. In one-on-one discussions, they have been chatting about motivation, aspirations and why each of us works. It’s refreshing to see our students reflecting on their potential rather than falling into a cycle of self-criticism. As Mr MacDonald beautifully stated, "Each student that I have spent time with has wonderful potential and beautiful ideas for their future – it is a real pleasure to be in their company."

One of the highlights of these discussions has been recognising the need for self-awareness, especially in students aged 16-18. Many young people develop habits that may limit their awareness of how to spend their time. By encouraging a mindset shift, we can help them avoid feelings of guilt associated with change and instead view it as an opportunity for growth. With a positive outlook on the year ahead, the possibilities are truly endless!

A Glimpse of the Future: Stepping into New Classrooms

The ESK campus has been buzzing with anticipation and discovery as our students took part in taster days, stepping into new spaces and preparing for the adventures ahead.

Year 2 made their way across campus from the Eco-building, getting their first glimpse of the Main Building, where Year 3 classes will be held. They eagerly explored their new classrooms, while Year 9 engaged in a preview of what their IGCSE years will entail in Year 10.

A significant highlight was the taster day that Year 6 students experienced, as they embark on their journey to Secondary School. Walking through new hallways and exploring the STEM Centre, they dove into subjects like Computer Science, Drama, Chemistry, Physics, and Art. Break times were even spent enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the ESK Cafe, giving them a real taste of what’s to come.

It’s natural for students to wonder: What will the teachers be like? How will it feel moving from classroom to classroom? At ESK, we understand these questions well. That’s why we’re deeply committed to nurturing every child’s well-being throughout this transition. Our Secondary School mirrors the warm, supportive environment of Primary, making sure each student feels confident and cared for as they embark on this next phase.

Mr Macdonald's advice to Year 6 is to embrace this change with an open heart and mind. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and seek guidance; your teachers are here to support you every step of the way. We all learn differently, and there are countless resources available to help you thrive in this next stage of your education.

We are looking forward to the exciting year ahead!
