WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF PRIMARY

Primary head of school

We pride ourselves on being an exceptional school. High-quality education, abundant opportunity to grow socially and emotionally, developing an understanding of global awareness and a strong family ethos result in a truly warm, welcoming and nurturing environment for all who are involved with the school. I encourage you to visit personally if you have the opportunity or please feel free to learn more by contacting us directly.

With warm regards,
Mr Aiden Roberts

I have worked in education for over 20 years and am incredibly proud to be the Primary Headteacher at The English School of Kyrenia. The Primary school caters for children between the ages of 2 and 11, every one of whom is seen as an individual, unique and important member of our family. Using a positive reinforcement ethos, we strive to deliver the best quality education and provide opportunities to ensure that our children develop into fine, compassionate and joyful individuals.

With the English based Cambridge curriculum as our framework, children are taught the core subjects of English, science, and topic focussed lessons on a daily basis. We use the Math’s No Problem scheme which helps learners develop their knowledge of mathematical concepts by using concrete, pictorial and abstract methods. Children receive Turkish lessons which also enable them to learn about and celebrate the traditional cultural aspects of life in North Cyprus. Sports and physical education encourage a competitive nature as well as instilling a sense of pride and achievement. We run many educationally-based school trips enable the children to explore the beautiful surroundings and through the Key-stage 2 residential visits to Lapta and Karpaz, team-work and leadership skills are carefully developed. Our elected Student Council members from Years 2 – 6 share thoughts for school improvement with myself and the management team which enables every child in the school to express their ideas effectively.

At each stage of their education, our children learn to understand the importance of their own interactions, both with adults and peers. The school’s core values of Respect, Honesty, Trust, Integrity, Sincerity, and Justice are strongly reflected in all aspects of school life and achievements in these areas are regularly celebrated during assemblies and ceremonies. ESK children learn about wider-scale global issues through our recycling scheme, visits from local wildlife charities such as SPOT, Society for the Protection of Turtles and through supporting charities with fundraising events.
