Unveiling the Power of Diplomacy: Model United Nations Kyrenia

12 schools, 4 committees, 100 delegates and 22 countries represented, MUNKY 2024 was a huge success!

Over the weekend, we were excited to Model United Nations, after a long break. It was a weekend filled with discussion, debate and fun. Students from across the island took on the role of delegates from different countries and worked hard attempting to tackle and solve some of the most pressing global issues on the UN Agenda, all through the eyes of their assigned country.

Ideas were ignited, resolutions written and passed and the art of diplomacy explored.

After the opening ceremony, students gathered in their assigned committees: Disarmament & International Security, Economics & Financial, Social & Humanitarian as well as the Security Council to discuss global issues, and negotiate and form solutions. These were all student-led and chaired by Year 13 students from various schools.

Mr Ben Rawlings, Deputy British High Commissioner to Cyprus, appeared as a guest speaker at the closing ceremony.

He spoke about the importance of this year’s conference theme, Global Versatlity, and encouraged our youth to take this opportunity as a stepping stone to discovering their voices and helping to shape the future of Cyprus and the World.

We are so proud of each and every student. Delegates went out of their comfort zones to present their arguments, Committee Chairs showcased their exceptional leadership skills, and the organisational team ensured the smooth running of the conference and made it a weekend to remember!

The conference was a great success, and many participants left expressing their hope to return in 2025.
